The town of Twillingate will witness something that hasn't happened here in a very long time - a house haul. Back in the days of fewer roads and primarily boat transportation, buildings were moved by floating on the sea, and then hauled to their new location using plain old-fashioned brute manpower. This was commonly seen when small remote outport communities were resettled to more urban locations. This year, the House Haul is being organized by The Isles Wooden Boat Building Committee. The Ashbourne Lower Trade building was a retail store in Twillingate that dates back to the late 19th century. It has been designated a municipal heritage structure, and will be preserved as a vital piece of Twillingate's merchant and fisheries history. On Tuesday, July 19, it was towed by two long liners to Snellin's Cove from Gillesport. Note: These pictures were taken the day before Porter's birthday. It was 10 degrees Celsius (50 degrees Farenheit). On Porter's birthday it was up in the 20's (80's F). That's Newfoundland weather for ya!

On Wednesday, July 27, the building will be hauled from Snellin's Cove beach up to it's final resting place next to the Twillingate Museum & Craft Shop. Stayed tuned for pictures!
