Genetics

What seems like hours has turned into days. Porter will be a week old tomorrow, and today is the first day Jacqui and I feel 'normal'...whatever that means. That's in large part due to the care package from Uncle Mark and Aunt Dana...

Various items for us all...and no, Brian didn't eat all the magic bars...

And a visit yesterday by Warren, Jenny, and Lincoln. They made us dinner, picked up some groceries, and provided us with some much needed human interaction. The relaxed afternoon led to the best night we've had yet with Porter. Thanks to the VanderMitchells!

Relaxed baby and parents led to feet stamping

Some morning news

The general grind of feeding, napping, cleaning, changing, etc... has been sprinkled with numerous priceless moments that undoubtedly strengthen our love for our new family member. For example, it is well known throughout much of the NE Coast of Newfoundland (currently celebrating the Fish Fun & Folk Festival) that the Piercey's can sing, pick, write, and are capable of picking up any instrument for the first time and play it within the hour. If you didn't get passed the musical gene (as Jacqui claims) you still have a deep love and need for music in your life. We've already seen this gene expressed in Porter... While enjoying a show during a break between feedings, a Johnny Cash song played in the background. Porter's eyes opened, and became keenly aware of that signature Cash beat. This wasn't the song that was playing, but I think we're going to start telling people it was...

It is also widely known throughout the greater Beliot, WI area, that the descendants of James Degan all relax in the sitting position with an arm raised over their head. Depending on the variables you've experienced or the location you live, this Degan gene can be expressed while sleeping too.

Both dead asleep
